Kia ora Parents/Whanau:

It is almost August and the daffodils, camelias and rhododendrons are stirring with spring around the corner. It is good to see the morning and evening light drawing out a little more each day.

Mihi Whakatau

Yesterday we had a formal welcome to our most recently arriving children, staff and whanau. It was lovely to catch up and to be able to welcome them as part of the Redwood School community. Thanks to all those who attended, to our kapahaka group, Lynda Selwood and Whaea Debbie who organised this event.

Matariki

We had a fabulous day last Friday. The tamariki were involved in all sorts of across-school activities set up by teachers and our Student Council members. The result was an excellent level of participation, enthusiasm and involvement. We ended the afternoon with a kite fly-past.

Special thanks again to Lynda Selwood, Nick Gunn and Jan Beck-Manawatu for your organisation.

Cross Countries

Yes, the weather was good and the track was firmer than expected. Tamariki, staff and parents/whanau were treated to some great races. Murchison Park proved to be a great venue, our tamariki were enthusiastic and the result was a great day. A special thanks to our senior tamariki who volunteered and did such a great job guiding our Year 1s and 2s.

This week Redwood hosted the zone cross country race and there was much to do to set it up. Special thanks to Chris Thurlow for his work in organising both cross countries.

Antarctic Centre Trip

I had the pleasure of going to the Antarctic Centre with Rooms 19/20 on Tuesday. Our tamariki learnt much about the Antarctic environment by seeing live penguins, entering a large snow room and freezing, and looking at the great array of exhibits on display. They were also excellent ambassadors for Redwood School.

It is great to see the tamariki experiencing all sorts of learning. With tamariki/parent/teacher conferences coming up you will be able to learn a lot more about the tamariki and their progress. Don’t forget t book your conference time!
